Banana Chia Snowballs [Christmas Baby Food For New Eaters!]

Banana Chia Snowballs [Christmas Baby Food For New Eaters!]

Do you have a new eater in your family? Once baby starts eating solids, a whole new world of food opens up to them… but you might wonder what exactly you can feed them as a Christmas snack this year.

One of my favorite snacks is bliss balls – they are so simple to make, just whip up all your ingredients in a food processor or a blender. They also taste delicious and can be spun out into infinite variations including baby led weaning or finger food friendly!

Finger Food Friendly Snowball Ingredients

My Banana Chia Snowballs can be whipped up in less than 5 minutes from ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. All you need is:

  • rolled oats
  • shredded coconut
  • chia seeds
  • a small banana
  • vanilla and spices

This makes a small batch as they taste best fresh – store in an airtight container in the fridge and consume within a couple of days.

Once you’ve made them, watch out for little hands!

I made mine into relatively large snowballs (about 1 tablespoon) for Mr.14 months. If you have a younger baby, feel free to form them into a shape you’re comfortable baby can manage – if that means a log, go for it! I’ve also had great success turning this into a kind of slice, sprinkle with coconut and cut into squares once chilled.

5 Minute Banana Chia Snowballs

Don't forget about baby this Christmas! This mildly sweet and simple treat whips up in 5 minutes for your littlest eater and is perfect for baby led weaning. Swap in your favorite Christmas spices, add dried fruit, or even roll the snowballs in crushed freeze dried berries or colored coconut for effect!

Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut, plus more to coat
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1 small banana
  • splash of vanilla
  • pinch of cinnamon, plus any other Christmassy spices you want (like ginger or nutmeg)

Instructions

  1. Process all ingredients in a food processor until the mixture forms a sticky dough - about 15 seconds depending on your machine.
  2. Shape the mixture into balls (or logs) and roll in shredded coconut to coat.
  3. Chill in the fridge or eat straight away.

Notes

This recipe is infinitely versatile - you can add any spice combinations you like, roll the mix in crushed freeze dried berries or add a drop of food coloring to your coconut for a Christmas colored snowball.

Feel free to sub out banana for dried fruit (you'll need to add in extra moisture in this case - try adding a little coconut oil or cream cheese.)

You can roll the snowballs as big or as small as you like - if you feel more comfortable you can squash the snowballs into discs or form them into logs for baby to eat.
