How to Make an Awe-Inspiring Harry Potter Themed Nursery

Whether you have a little Harry or a tiny Hermione on the way, a Harry Potter Themed nursery is a lovely way to welcome a baby to your home. Parents who are Hogwarts fans might choose Harry Potter for their nursery theme to share their love of this magical enterprise.
Your new baby won’t notice their nursery decorations, but a Harry Potter themed nursery can be an extraordinary and delightful treat for parents and for your child as they grow older.
So Accio! Let’s summon up a Harry Potter Themed Nursery that would make Dumbledore proud.

Tips and Tricks to Help You Design Your Harry Potter Themed Nursery

There are a few things to think about before starting your Harry Potter Themed Nursery.

  1. Overall Direction: There are many different ways you can approach a Harry Potter Themed Nursery. You could make a room that looks like it was transported straight from the wizarding world. You could choose your favorite Hogwarts house and design around those colors. You could do a Hogwarts castle theme or create a railroad/platform 9 ¾ themed room. So many options! Choose your favorite and go from there.
  2. Color Scheme: Your color theme might be heavily influenced by your overall theme direction. You can also choose to make most of the nursery neutral and add in pops of color that support your theme. Or perhaps you’ll want ALL THE COLOR and go all out with red and gold for a Gryffindor-themed room, green and silver for Slytherin, yellow and black for Hufflepuff and blue and bronze for Ravenclaw, for example. Keep in mind that you want the nursery to support sleeping so a lot of bright colors might not be a good choice.
  3. Intensity/subtlety of Theme: I like to use Pinterest as a jumping off point for how I want my rooms to look. If you are drawn to nurseries that have a subtle nod to Harry Potter, that can change how you approach your planning and purchasing. If you err on the side of bold, an over-the-top Harry Potter themed nursery might be the perfect outlet to make creative choices.
  4. Budget: It is the unfortunate truth that your budget is usually the main driver in your nursery design choices. If you have a smaller budget, you’ll want to choose less expensive but more impactful ways to add a Harry Potter theme to your nursery including paint color and bedding. If you have a large budget, you can really go all out with lamps, murals, toys and wall hangings that will add all the magic of Hogwarts to your baby’s nursery. And don’t forget to add any or all of these Harry Potter nursery products to your baby registry!
  5. Do you want the nursery to grow with your child? Hardcore Harry Potter fans might want their baby’s nursery to transition into a toddler and child room. If you are hoping to keep this theme going for longer than just your nursery, make choices that are easy to “age up.” For example, spend your money on pieces that can be used longer than just the baby years like a mural, wall art, lamps and storage. Another way to keep the theme going is to choose mostly neutral colors so that you can switch to another Harry Potter theme as your child grows up. Perhaps you start with a railroad/platform 9 ¾ when they are a babies, then change it to your child’s favorite Hogwarts house when they get older. If you have chosen neutral colors it will be easier to switch out a few items and keep the Harry Potter love going!

41 Things You NEED in Your Harry Potter Themed Nursery

You don’t need ALL these things (though you might feel like it once you see how stinkin’ cute they all are!), but a carefully chosen selection will help you create the Harry Potter Nursery of your dreams!

Crib Sheets for a Harry Potter Theme

Crib sheets are a great way to highlight your nursery theme in a useful and inexpensive way.

These Wizard World Crib Sheets are a gorgeous blue and gold that would work well with either gender! Another cute and more neutral color choice is this Marauder’s map Crib Sheet.

You also might love the graphic black and white style of these Wizard Crib Sheets.

If you choose black and white for the crib sheets, you could easily go with any Harry Potter theme and color scheme in the rest of your nursery.

Harry Potter Blankets

Not only will blankets keep your baby comfy and cozy at night, they can also add color and whimsy to your Harry Potter Themed nursery.

This personalized wizard quilt blanket is an adorable choice  or you could choose a black and gold muslin swaddle blanket that will bring in the Harry Potter theme in a classic way.

This gorgeous wizard themed minky can be customized to add different color backing to make it fit with your overall theme and/or baby’s gender.

Lamps and Nightlights for the Wizarding World Ambience

Nightlights are so useful for nighttime changing and feedings as well as helping your child feel safe and secure.

These Harry Potter themed lights will easily grow with your child past the nursery stage.

I love this personalized wizard nightlight. It has your child’s name and a wizard’s wand. It changes to 16 different LED colors.

This custom engraved nightlight is lovely and would make a lifelong keepsake for your baby! You can choose the color and have a custom wood engraving if you wish.

Another option for more of a Harry Potter literary slant is a vintage book stack lamp. Once you order, you can choose book colors and specific vintage books the seller has available. This would be so cute in a nursery! Y

ou can choose from a wizarding castle cloud or Platform 9 ¾ night light from this Etsy Seller. Both will add a touch of Harry Potter magic to a baby nursery.

Murals or Wall Stickers Straight Out of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

If you live in an apartment and/or don’t want something permanent, Harry Potter themed murals and wall stickers are an excellent option to style your nursery.

The famous Dumbledore quote about Happiness would be such a sweet addition to your nursery. You can choose from a variety of sizes and vinyl colors to compliment your theme.

Another quote option is the Dumbledore quote about choices. This wall art is only available in one size (40” x 17”) and color (black).

If you want a picture instead of words, this Hogwarts castle wall sticker is gorgeous and can also be ordered in other sizes and colors.

A Platform 9 ¾ sign vinyl sticker would be a cute and simple addition to a Harry Potter themed nursery.

If you want to have all of the Hogwarts houses in your baby nursery, this set of Hogwarts school crests is a wonderful option (be advised that Gryffindor is the biggest wall sticker…the other houses are much smaller).

This stick on wall mural will make it look like your child has the window open to look at Hogwarts! Great fun if you have a good wall space for it!

Baby Mobiles for Your Little Muggle

Baby mobiles are a sweet and useful way to add a stylish accent to your baby’s nursery (and keep baby calm in their crib!).

This flying keys mobile is so pretty! You can choose from two sizes and your baby will love to watch this mobile glimmer and spin.

These handmade Harry Potter felt mobile attachments are adorable. You can purchase them and add them to an existing mobile (or make your own from hoops).

Another handmade mobile option is this wizarding icons mobile. Every piece is handmade from clay.

Harry Potter Toys for Your Baby’s Nursery

Another subtle way to add Harry Potter to your themed nursery is through toys.

Here are some Harry Potter toys that are as fun as they are decorative.

Babies will love this Harry Potter Crinkle Taggie Sensory Blanket that they can crinkle, twist and chew. Another taggie blanket option is a monogrammed Marauders Map Crinkle Tag Blanket.

A soft Harry Potter themed Baby Sensory Taggie Block is portable or can be kept in baby’s room.

You can’t go wrong with a classic baby rattle. These handmade wooden Harry Potter rattles are so cute and these unique Harry Potter crocheted rattles would be perfect on a display shelf!

And can you even handle these crocheted Harry Potter dolls?! They are probably best kept for decoration NOT for play but would make such a precious addition to a Harry Potter nursery. You can chose from Harry Potter crochet mini dolls or full size Harry Potter crochet dolls

Harry Potter Themed Nursery Storage

I love adding things that serve a double purpose in a room. These storage products will keep your nursery tidy while adding Harry Potter flair!

Fabric storage baskets are great because you can put so many different things inside (diapers, clothes etc).

These smaller bags are technically for dice, but add pops of Harry Potter House colors and can be used to store smaller items like pacifiers and diaper cream.

A gorgeous handmade wooden chest adds drama and storage to your Harry Potter nursery.

Another great addition to a Harry Potter themed nursery are these clothing dividers. They would look so cute in a baby closet and will help keep baby’s clothes organized.

Clothing and Baby Care Items To Show Your Love of Hogwarts

If you’re creating a Harry Potter themed nursery, you won’t want to pass up these adorable Hogwarts inspired clothes!

You could purchase Harry Potter bibs, a onesie with your favorite Harry Potter inspired quote like Snuggle this Muggle onesie (Ahhh!), or I Solemnly Swear that I am Up to no Good onesie, or some soft Harry Potter moccasins

There are other useful Harry Potter baby items including these soft burp cloths, pacifier clips with Harry Potter themed ribbons, or this teether/pacifier clip featuring Hogwarts Houses.

Make teething a little less stressful with this Harry Potter teething kit. It includes 2 bibs, 2 burp cloths and a Harry Potter teething ring.
