Boy or Girl? 32 Sweet Gender Reveal Cake Ideas to Surprise Your Friends (and Yourself)

 

Finding out the gender of your baby is always a beautiful moment – whether you find out at an ultrasound, at birth, or… with a gender reveal cake at a gender reveal party.

How do Gender Reveal Cakes Work?

The nice thing about gender reveal cakes is that you, the mom-to-be, finds out what your baby’s gender is at the same time as your friends and family. But, that takes a little planning.

Here’s how to make it work:

1. At your anatomy scan (around 20 weeks), tell your ultrasound tech of your plans. They’ll normally ask if you want to know the gender… but tell them straight up that you don’t want to know and you want them to write it down instead. Bring a piece of paper or a card and an envelope so you can seal it safely away from prying eyes.
2. Arrange for a local bakery, cake shop, or friend to make your gender reveal cake (check out the ones on this page for inspiration!) Give them the envelope and ask them to make the cake for you according to the gender in the card… but obviously not to tell you what it is.
3. Organize your gender reveal party! Set up the cake on a table with gorgeous themed decorations and cut the cake for the climax of the party. Get excited about your new baby boy or girl!
