Almond butter lactation smoothie – with the taste of summer peaches for breastfeeding moms.
Here’s a cool lactation smoothie recipe that will keep your breast milk supply where it should be.
A tasty, nutritious way to get a quick boost is by making a fantastic and fun-to-drink lactation smoothie! You can easily whip up any flavor for breakfast or lunch – they’re great at filling you up for the next breastfeeding session.
Smoothies are the perfect breakfast on-the fly. You can’t go wrong with a smoothie, and you’ll never be bored because there’s always something new to try! Add in your favorite fruit, milk or yogurt flavor (or even ice cream!), some almond butter for protein…any combination will work! Instead of getting stuck making eggs every morning think outside the box – make yourself an icy cold delicious smoothie instead.
It’s so easy to make smoothies to your dietary needs too – if you are:
- vegan
- nut-free
- dairy-free
- keto
- paleo
- low carb
- protein-full!
- sugar-free
You can even boost your smoothie with things like hidden vegetables, protein powder or collagen powder to make it healthier. Or add other supplements for a better-for-you beverage!
This smoothie is NOT the healthiest of them all. It’s more of a “sometimes” smoothie – but it is incredibly tasty and delicious and makes a decadent treat.

What’s in my favorite almond butter lactation smoothie:
Banana – great for sweetening your smoothie naturally, bananas also help make it super creamy (especially if you take the time to freeze the banana overnight). Bananas contain lots of healthy vitamins and minerals too, like potassium.
Flax Meal – full of essential fatty acids and phytoestrogens, it’s thought that flax seeds can help increase your milk supply. You won’t taste them in a smoothie, but they’ll help make it thick and creamy.
Rolled Oats – another famous food to increase your milk supply. In a smoothie, oats add creaminess and help to keep you full.
Brewer’s Yeast (Debittered) – optional! A well known galactagogue (foods that increase milk supply) you can add Brewer’s Yeast into this smoothie once your baby has arrived. The best kind to get is this one, which has been ‘debittered’ as it has a bit of an aftertaste.
These ingredients (plus a few more) when mixed together make a decadent, sweet, almond butter smoothie that’s just delicious!

Do Lactation Smoothies Work?
Lactation smoothies are not for everyone. If you think that your medical condition is the reason why lactation has been difficult, it’s important to consult with a doctor or lactation consultant even before trying any supplements or treatments like milk-producing cookies and tea.
There are many benefits to drinking lactation smoothies (beyond increasing milk supply):
- it’s an easy way to get your nutrients in at one of the most busiest times of your life!
- You can whip up a big smoothie in advance and keep it on hand for whenever you’re feeling hungry or thirsty.
- If you make freezer bags, they’ll be ready when hunger strikes – no need to worry about whether someone did groceries yesterday!
- There are also plenty of ways you can add to your smoothie: ricotta left over from making lasagna? Add some into ice cubes and freeze to go into your next smoothie; leftover cucumber? In it goes.
When To Start Drinking Lactation Smoothies
You can start drinking lactation smoothies right now!
You might prefer to skip the Brewer’s Yeast because of the after taste (and you don’t really need it if your pregnant or not breastfeeding). But, most lactation smoothies are simply very healthy and packed with nutritious ingredients. And when baby starts getting bigger in third trimester (move over stomach!) you might find that drinking vitamin-packed smoothies is actually a great choice!
