What to Think About Before Making Your Baby Announcement at Halloween

If you’re thinking about announcing your pregnancy in October, there are a few things to consider:

How far along you are

Many people choose to wait until after the first trimester (12+ weeks pregnant) to announce their pregnancy. At that point, your risk of miscarriage drops fairly dramatically making some people feel more confident about sharing the big news.

However, there is a good case that the people you would announce your pregnancy to anyway (close friends and family) are exactly the people that you’d need support from if you do, in fact, have a miscarriage. For this reason, some people feel comfortable announcing their pregnancy right away.

Talk to your husband about his feelings and make this big decision together.

Others’ feelings

If you have someone in your life suffering from infertility, you should definitely consider the timing of your announcement. Consider telling someone sensitive to pregnancy announcements privately and personally before you make a special Halloween announcement on social media.

Your feelings about Halloween

While there are some really cute Halloween pregnancy announcement ideas, if you personally don’t love Halloween (or have a close family member who isn’t a fan) you might want to re-think coupling your big announcement with a less-than-favorite holiday.

What Type of Halloween Announcement Do You Want to Make?

When it comes to Halloween Pregnancy Annoucements, ideas seem to fall into two main categories:

  1. Fall Themed: Think pumpkins, fall colors, leaves etc. These pregnancy announcements can be made anytime during the fall season, not just Halloween time.
  2. Costume-y: This could be costume ideas, Halloween t-shirts etc. There are such fun costume ideas that will also help you make the big announcement. If you love to dress-up, these ideas might be your cup of tea!

The great news is, there’s no reason why you can’t do more than one type of annoucement! If you love the idea of a cool costume revealing your pregnancy status then wear one to your friend’s/family’s Halloween party! If you also love a cute photo announcement with pumpkins, make that happen as well and use your adorable pic to make your Halloween Pregnancy Annoucement on social media.

Think about how much effort (including time and money!) you are willing to put into your announcement and choose one (or more!) from below that you love, love, LOVE.

13 Cute Halloween Pregnancy Announcement Ideas

Now let’s get to the fun part…choosing how you want to make your Halloween Pregnancy Announcement. There are no wrong answers here people.

Choose an idea that makes you smile and isn’t too hard for you to execute. Then make the magic happen!

Carved pumpkins with sign

You can either carve something into the pumpkin that gives a clue OR just do standard Halloween carving and add a sign with the important info like, “Baby ___ coming on [date]. “

Carved/painted pumpkin with ultrasound pics

Paint or carve “Coming Soon” on a pumpkin and take a picture of it with your ultrasound photos nearby.

“Don’t Eat the Pumpkin Seeds” Sign

We love this clever way to announce your pregnancy. It does require that you have a noticeable baby bump. Use a light box or letter sign to write “Don’t Eat the Pumpkin Seeds” and have a picture of you holding the sign and pointing to your preggo tummy. So cute!

A family of pumpkins (and a super tiny one with ‘coming soon’ on it)

This idea is simple to execute and so sweet! Just buy a pumpkin for each member of your family (including a tiny one) and line them up in a photo.

You can either put a tag that says “Coming Soon” on the tiny pumpkin OR just put the tiny pumpkin on top of the pumpkin representing the mom. If you don’t use a sign, it might be fun to see if anyone figures out on their own what your pumpkin pic means!

Photo of big brother/sister in pumpkin patch holding a sign “Not the only pumpkin in the patch!”

This Halloween pregnancy annoucement kills two birds with one stone because you get to take your older child to a fun pumpkin patch AND get a couple of photographs to send as a pregnancy annoucement. Win/Win!

“We’re adding a pumpkin to our patch” sign + pumpkins + ultrasound print out

This idea involves a few of our favorites. You’ll need to have a letter sign or a printed page that says “We’re adding a pumpkin to our patch.”

You can take the pics at a big pumpkin patch with ultrasound pictures attached to the sign and pumpkins in the background OR use pumpkins at your own house to create a similar pumpkin patch scene.

Mama-to-be holding ultrasound photo at the pumpkin patch

This idea is easy and cute! Have the mom-to-be either alone or with her husband holding a ultrasound picture at the pumpkin patch.

Trick-or-Treat, Baby Feet

Purchase some cute baby shoes. You can take a picture of a trick-or-treat basket next to the shoes OR have mom holding the shoes and dad holding out the trick-or-treat basket. Caption your post, “Trick-or-Treat, Baby Feet!” like the popular children’s chant that says “Trick-or-treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat.”

No Tricks, just treats

Fill a trick-or-treat bucket up with candy and put a sign on top that says, “No Tricks, Just Treats! We are excited to announce baby ____ due on ____”

Skeleton costume (with baby skeleton inside) or skeleton t-shirt

I’m not sure what genius came up with this skeleton baby idea but it is perfect for Halloween! You could either purchase a skeleton costume that has a baby showing inside the ribs OR a more simple Skeleton pregnancy t-shirt option. If pregnancy fatigue has you barely getting off the couch, the t-shirt and some comfy pants can make your pregnancy announcement low-key but adorable.

Winnie, I Smell a Child’ sign/t-shirts

Hocus Pocus fans can turn this legendary line into an amazing pregnancy annoucment. You could either purchase a t-shirt OR use a letterboard or light box to showcase the quote. See who catches on first!

Deady and Mummy t-shirts

This is a clever play on words. In some countries moms are already called “Mummy.” Purchasing a Halloween a t-shirt for mummy naturally calls for a “Deady” t-shirt as well, right? You could wear these shirts to a Halloween party or post a picture on social media.

‘We’re expecting a little pumpkin’ sign plus pumpkins

This is another simple and beautiful Halloween Pregnancy Annoucement idea. Create a sign using your favorite option (letterboard, light box, handwritten, computer printed etc).

Next, put the sign nearby a tiny pumpkin (or several pumpkins) and take some sweet pics! You could also have a picture of you and your husband holding the sign and pumpkin. Simple and lovely!

The Final Word On Halloween Pregnancy Announcement Ideas

Sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to make the perfect pregnancy announcement. But I am here to tell you…it doesn’t really matter that much HOW you do it.

Your family and friends are going to be so happy for you that the content of the announcement is much more important than how you package it.

That being said, announcing your pregnancy at Halloween is a playful and oftentimes simple option. I hope you found a Halloween pregnancy announcement idea that has you excited and ready to share your momentous news.

Congratulations on your new little pumpkin, and have FUN!
